"I am on my 3rd pair of Genius shoes over the last 10 years. I typically get about 12 to 15k miles out of a pair before I have beat up the upper with scuffs bad enough that I feel the need to replace them. They may cost twice as much as some shoes but they last 3 or 4 times as long so you win in the long run.
These are not for everybody as they fit a bit narrow, but the half sizes are a touch wider and there is a mega version for wide feet on top of that.
This version has a buckle that is a bit tricky to figure out at first but is very easy to adjust while riding. I like to adjust my shoes while riding so my feet stay comfortable when they swell or so I can tighten them up for some of the steeper climbs around here.
The Lorica upper is very form fitting and will stretch a bit to conform to your foot. This lends a less solid feel than some of the harder shoes out there but it is much much much more comfortable on 3, 4 and 5 hour rides.
These soles are not as stiff as some of the carbon sole shoes out there. I had some Shimano R211's for a while but kept going back to my Sidis as they are just more comfortable.
Even with little venting these shoes are cool enough to ride here. (High desert) Even when temps are in the 100 to 110 range my feet are comfortable.
If I could change one thing it would be the weight. Back in 1997 when I started using Sidis they were weight competative. Now that other shoes are so much lighter these are sort of piggy.
Just love 'em."
Pros:
Cons:
"had a pair of old sidis dual velcro tri shoes, that were one size too small for my feet to begin with, velcro starting to rip from straps, years of normal wear and tear.
started looking for a new pair, walked into a local performance shop to try out different brands, shimano has a big gaping hole on the bottom, good for ventilation, bad for wet roads (i hate riding in soaked socks), some other brand had odd looking wire/mesh boxes for ventilation, some had carbon sole with no rubber, probably won't last long, stuck with good old sidis. picked lorica since my last experience with the mesh on the tri shoes were harder to clean.
picked out the right size and sat there to put on the cleats, the threads stripped on my first try... shown this to one of the sales guys and he gladly pulled out a "demo" pair of the same size, i tried again and this time i successfully put on the cleats without stripping the threads, we both sat there and investigated and soon found that the mounting threads were made of different material.
the ones that stripped, were the soft nickel color type, and the replacements i bought has brass colored thread. i went home and torque the bolts a few more times, no problem. checked my old tri sidis and sure enough, they had the brass colored thread. be warned, check the color of the threads before buying a pair.
otherwise, i love the half step micro adjust ratchet that give me freedom to adjust on the fly. took me a week or two of daily use to "break in", or rather to find a comfortable tightness, once that's figured out, i've never looked back. it's a very comfy pair of shoes and i've done centuries and 9hr rides on them and never felt numbness or hot spots. it's worth paying for the comfort and durability."
Pros:
Cons:
"I have owned a lot of shoes over the years and these are the very best. The have a slight flex in the sole and this adds tremendously to comfort, especially on long, hot rides. These are durable shoes, too, and easily outlast any other that I have tried. If you have very narrow feet, Sidi offers a narrow size, but their standard last is narrow anyway. Wide feet need their Mega, although two of my wide footed friends prefer Carnac, another quality shoe.
I actually have two pairs of Genius 5s and the newer pair has a slightly improved ratcheting system for closure. These ratchets are not so great and I wish Sidi would replace them with a simple velcro strap closure. The ratchets are especially difficult to remove."
Pros:
Cons:
"I have oddly-shaped feet, so I was happy to
find that the Genius 5 is available in
a size 49 wide (Mega).
I've had the shoes about a year now, and
I'm pretty happy with them. Even the Mega
shoe is a bit too narrow in the toe box for
me. I doubt I can find a better fit in a
non-custom shoe, though.
Soon after I bought the shoes, I stripped
one of the cleat screw inserts. At the
time, I was using the SPD-R adapters. Sidi's
American distributor fixed the insert under
warranty -- I happened to live near their
offices.
Now, a year later, I've stripped another
screw insert, even though I was aware of this
vulnerability and careful not to over-torque
the screws. I'm now using SPD-SL cleats.
A local bike shop is trying to source the
parts, and I may need to visit a cobbler to
do the actual repair.
It's a shame that a pricey shoe like this uses
easily-stripped metal in the screw inserts.
The LBS mechanic told me that he's seen this
problem with Sidi's sold by his shop."
"I ordered these shoes after reading the reviews of others concerning the width issue. I have moderately wide feet and these shoes fit like a glove. No hot spot on the ball after a 40 mile test ride. The little rubber bumper on the heel keeps your feet from sliding out from under you when coming to a short stop. Good shoe- I will buy them again. They look good too :)"
"I, too, had a screw stripping problem. My make-shift repair has been the only answer so far - I've taken the shoes with me to several local bike stores...looking for a solution, short of purchasing another pair. The threads are so short and the head so flat that a repair kit for the clip would be great."
"I used Carnacs for years and loved them for their Speedplay interface. I bought a new pair and they were terribly uncomfortable. I tried new insoles to no avail. Then I tried the SIDI. I don't even need the upgraded insole, its already comfortable!
Very comfortable for routine 100k rides."
Pros:
Cons:
"The fit is snug and conforms to the shape of your foot, for good energy transfer to the pedals. I've used Pearl Izumi's, Northwaves and Shimano, and these are the best fit and performance. Hold up well, even though they are supple. Replace footbed with Superfeet for better energy transfer and no hot spotting. Narrow width tends to cause middle of foot pain after 5 hours, but if front straps are kept loose, no problems arise."
Pros:
Cons:
"I have wider than average feet. My feet would be painful after rides. I tried Carnac's that never quite fit right, Lake's that were cheaply constructed and then the Sidi Megas. I have had them for 4 years, ride about 4000-5000 miles per year and the shoes are still OK except for the heel pads being worn out (I bought replacements) and the leather being a little stretched and scuffed. They are still comfortable on 100 mile rides.
I can't say enough about how happy I am with them. I had to tighten the screws that hold in the buckle a couple of times. When they get wet, I pull out the insole and let them dry out but they seem fine. On one very hard ride in 95F temps this summer my feet got crazy hot but I am not sure any shoe would have prevented that.
I wouldn't buy any other shoe as long as these are available."

"Second pair of Sidi's and couldn't be happier with the purchase. It will be difficult to ever buy another shoe. The stitching and construction quality is high-level, and these should last as long as my first pair of Sidi's (which still feel new after 6 years). Power goes straight to the peddle, pleasingly light for my level of cycling, and adjustable to reach a perfectly snug fit. Highly recommend."
