Pros:
"I read a review in which an author was irrate about the helmet fit and unfairly knocked it -- so here's the real scoop:
I originally ordered this helmet for my wife and I, then ordered a pair of Bell Volt because we both had fit issues with the Spyder. However, I'm reluctantly returning the Spyder. My head size is 61cm (24") and the Scattante fits a bit snug. If I were to put a hood underneath it for winter riding, it would probably become uncomfortable after a while. That said, except for the fit, I definitely liked this helmet.
Examining both the Spyder and the Volt, the Spyder seems to have better airflow management, with greater airchannel capacity than the Volt. The Spyder also has a lower profile and sleeker look than the Volt. Based on reading the description on the Performance web site, I assume it also has molded-in internal reinforcement, as with most high-end cycle helmets including the Volt. As far as weight is concerned, I can't subjectively discern any difference from the more expensive Bell Volt.
The downside is this: The Spyder helmet very much is built around a "Round" headshape. If you have an "Egg" headshape (me) or an "Oblong" headshape (my wife) and you are pushing the upper limit of the helmet size, you may have an issue with its fit.
By contrast, the Bell Volt employs an "Oval" helmet mold which offers the best compromise to fit various head shapes. It also comes in three mold sizes (S, M, L) versus the two mold sizes of the Spyder -- allowing for greater fit variance. Finally, for the additional money, the Bell offers more adjustment flexibility with the head basket mechanics. Overall, for my wife and I, it offers a more comfortable and roomy fit.
Bottom line is this: If you know you have a round headshape and you measure comfortably within the limits of its size range, I think you'll be happy with this helmet as other reviewers have found. If you know you have an egg or oblong head it may be a coin-toss.
Performance, of course, could help its customers out by putting this information in the product descrptions."

Cons:
"This is EXACTLY the same helmet as the BBB Falcon which was used in the 2010 TdF by Quick Step and Cofidis except it's about half the price when it's on sale at PBS. It fits your head like a Bell Sweep but has a fit system like a Giro. It is very well ventilated (a little better than the Sweep) and comes with an extra set of pads. Who cares if it says SCATTANTE on it?"
Pros:
"After three rides in rather warm temps, I didn't realize the helmet was on my head. Very light and comfortable with good ventilation. The fit pads seem to wick away moisture better than others. They don't feel soggy when I take the helmet off. This is certainly a great value when compared to high end Gyros and Bells."
Pros:
"Super value, great fit, very comfortable! The sweat pads are on the slim side. And I put the that there is no optional visor only because I wear glasses and sometimes do have my prescription sunglasses with me and it'd be nice to throw a visor on for those days. The adjustment system is easy to use. Plenty of ventilation. Did I mention comfortable and light?"
Pros:
Cons:
"I got this helmet at the grand opening sale for [$]. It's an amazing helmet so far. The ventilation is nice, and it's super light weight. Straps are easily adjustable, as is the back-of-the-head adjustments. Worn it for around 300+ miles so far and have no complaints. Luckily haven't had any crashes, so not sure on the durability yet. But I'm sure it's just as good as the more expensive giro and bell helmets."
Pros:
"Scattante did an awesome job on the Spyder helmet. Super comfortable, and lightweight, to the point I'd forget I'm wearing it. Took literally minutes to set up. Way better than the helmets from the days past. Honestly can't find one "con" about it. May not be the best for cold weather, but we'll have to wait till winter to know for sure..."
Pros:
"Decent helmet for the price. I own this and a Bell Sweep and prefer the Sweep. I wear a small/medium and it weighs in at 330 grams, much heavier than the advertised weight. I'm not a weight weenie but I like a lighter helmet. I like the styling of the Spyder better than other helmets anywhere near the price range. Venting is also better on the Sweep. Better venting and being slightly lighter makes me grab the Sweep more often despite that I like the look and fit of the Spyder better."
Pros:
Cons:
"The helmet is actually really nice and very lightweight for the price. After several hours of wearing it though I am starting to have a spot in the helmet digging into my forehead. For the price it has done me well, but I am looking for a new helmet now."
Pros:
"Okay.... here's the deal with this helmet:
It looks great
Matches the color of my bike
Doesn't make my head look too big
Great ventilation
Now, the reason for the 3-star rating:
The major problem that I had, and has already been mentioned, is that the helmet design has the front support coming right down the middle of my forehead and wouldn't sit well (egg shaped head vs round head). Now, I certainly don't have a neanderthal shaped head, but I would come back from a ride and the front of my forehead would just be irritated. I looked at some other helmet designs and saw that their support bars are split....that is, they don't come right down the middle of your forehead. Since I liked the helment, I decided to remedy this issue. So.... with a knife, a sander, and some sandpaper, I removed the portion of the support bar that was rubbing my head, and ta-da, it now fits great!
Try this helmet on and notice the front support bar. If it rubs your forehead, you may want to pass on it if you don't have the desire or inclination to correct the fit.
3 stars because I like the helmet, but I had to made modifications to make it fit correctly"
